Aladdin and His Magic Lamp

The traditional story of Aladdin is based on a Middle-Eastern folk tale that was later adapted into numerous theatrical, animated, and cinematic versions. On Saturday May 10th, Pioneer Valley Ballet will bring its own reimagined fantasy adaptation of this audience favorite to Northampton’s Academy of Music Theatre for two performances.

PVB’s Aladdin and His Magic Lamp tells the tale of Aladdin, a kind-hearted street urchin, and The Great Alberto, a power-hungry circus ringleader vying for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true. Aladdin discovers the magical lamp in a mysterious cave and releases a powerful genie who grants him three wishes. Aladdin then uses his wishes to win the heart of the beautiful circus performer “Princess Jasmine”, while battling the evil ringleader of the circus that comes to town. Ultimately, Aladdin uses his wits and the genie’s magic to defeat The Great Alberto and live happily ever after with Jasmine.

This modern reimagining of Aladdin, filled with fantastical characters, beautiful scenery and exquisite choreography, features Pioneer Valley Ballet dancers along with community performers from across Western MA.
